Dear GECHS Community,

Welcome to Granville Early College High School, home of the Spartans! It brings me tremendous honor to serve as the principal of our extraordinary school where joy, respect, collaboration and innovation sustain our commitment to excellence and achievement for all.

Granville Early College High School was established in 2009 as an innovative partnership between Granville County Public Schools and Vance-Granville Community College, with the mission of providing students with the opportunity to earn college credit—up to an associate degree—while completing high school. Our model combines rigorous academics with personalized support and a college-going culture that begins the moment students walk through our doors. Our students consistently outperform regional and state averages on college readiness indicators. Since the initial graduating class, 472 of the 517 graduates of GECHS have earned an associate degree along with their high school diploma.

With 25 years of experience in education—as a teacher, counselor, and administrator—I bring to my work a deep commitment to academic excellence and growth for students and educators. Before joining Granville Early College High School in 2024, I served in a variety of roles that shaped my passion for college access and preparing students for life beyond high school. I believe that when students feel seen, supported, and challenged, they will maximize opportunities for learning and growth—and I work each day to ensure that our school environment fosters just that.

As we look ahead to the 2025-2026 school year and beyond, we remain focused on several key priorities:

  • Deepening student engagement and ownership of learning through reflection and metacognition
  • Amplifying the importance of literacy across all subjects and in daily life
  • Strengthening our community partnerships to support experiential learning, field trips, internships, mentorships, and career exploration
  • Celebrating and supporting the whole student—academically, socially, and emotionally—so that each student thrives.

Thank you for choosing to be a part of our school community. Your support—as a student, family member, staff member, graduate or community partner—helps make Granville Early College High School a place where excellence is expected, achieved and celebrated. I invite you to stay connected, get involved and continue to help us charge forward—together.

Sincerely,

Dr. Gwen Roulhac, Principal
